Draft lottery for dynasty leagues

Tanking is one of dynasty's most persistent problems. When the worst record guarantees the #1 pick, bottom teams have every incentive to lose on purpose. League Tycoon's weighted draft lottery keeps all teams invested all season with a live lottery ceremony that draws the rookie draft order from lottery balls.

How the draft lottery works

When the season ends, League Tycoon automatically assigns lottery balls to every non-playoff team based on their final record. Worse records get more balls, which means better odds at a high pick. Playoff teams receive zero balls and are placed in the draft order after the lottery based on their playoff finish.

The commissioner schedules a lottery date after the season. When the lottery runs, the platform draws teams one at a time from the ball pool. Each time a team is drawn, all of that team's remaining balls are removed, and the next pick is drawn from the remaining pool. The whole league can watch the results reveal in a live lottery ceremony with countdown timers and real-time ball animations.

Adjustable lottery balls

Commissioners can update the ball count for any team before the lottery runs. Award extra balls for winning the consolation bracket, adjust for mid-season ownership changes, or implement any other custom rule your league uses.

Scheduled lottery ceremony

The commissioner picks a date and time for the lottery after the season ends. When that time arrives, the platform runs the drawing and reveals results in a live ceremony the whole league can watch.

Transparent results

Every league member sees the ball counts, the drawing order, and the final rookie draft order. Full transparency so there are no questions about how the order was determined.

Automatic ball assignment

Lottery balls are assigned automatically when the season ends based on final standings. Commissioners can then adjust from there, or leave the defaults as-is.

Non-playoff teams receive lottery balls by record. A live ceremony draws the order. More balls means better odds, but nothing is guaranteed. Default for contract dynasty leagues.

Inverse Standings

Traditional

Non-playoff teams draft in order of worst to best record. Simple and traditional. Playoff teams follow in reverse order of their playoff finish.

Max Points For

Anti-tanking

Non-playoff teams are sorted by maximum possible points scored instead of wins and losses. This reduces tanking because a team cannot lower its max points by benching players.

What is a draft lottery in dynasty fantasy football?
A draft lottery uses weighted randomness to determine rookie draft order for non-playoff teams instead of giving the worst record the automatic #1 pick. Each non-playoff team receives lottery balls based on their finish, with worse records getting more balls. The lottery draws teams one at a time, and more balls means better odds, but nothing is guaranteed.

How does the draft lottery prevent tanking?
By weighting the odds instead of guaranteeing the #1 pick to the worst team, the lottery removes the direct incentive to lose. The worst team still has the best odds (100 balls), but a team with 60 or 45 balls can win the draw. Every win still matters.
