Migration Guide

Switch from MyFantasyLeague to League Tycoon

MyFantasyLeague (MFL) is the long-time power-user dynasty platform with deep configurability. League Tycoon is the modern dynasty-first alternative with a cleaner interface, integrated contract management, and a mobile app that makes it easier to onboard league mates. If your league has outgrown MFL's interface, here is how to make the switch.

Why leagues switch from MFL

MFL has served dynasty leagues well for years, and many of the most serious salary cap leagues started there. But the platform's interface has not kept pace with modern expectations, and that creates real problems for commissioners trying to keep their leagues active.

  • Modern UI and design. MFL's interface reflects its age. League Tycoon is built with clean typography, dark mode, and intuitive navigation that league mates actually want to use.
  • Mobile app. MFL has historically relied on third-party mobile apps. League Tycoon has a modern native app for the full league experience on your phone.
  • Integrated contract management. On MFL, salary cap leagues often require spreadsheets and manual tracking. League Tycoon handles contracts, cap enforcement, extensions, and dead money inside the platform.
  • Easier league-mate onboarding. Getting all twelve owners to log in, navigate MFL, and set lineups is a recurring challenge. League Tycoon's simpler interface reduces that friction significantly.
  • Trade auctions. League Tycoon supports trade auctions natively, bringing transparency and fair pricing to dynasty trades. MFL does not offer this feature.
  • Zero ads. League Tycoon is ad-free. MFL requires a paid upgrade to remove ads from your league.

What you gain on League Tycoon

Beyond solving the pain points above, League Tycoon brings dynasty-specific features that MFL either does not support or requires workarounds to achieve.

  • Automated salary cap enforcement with real-time cap tracking How salary caps work
  • Built-in contract management with extensions, franchise tags, and dead money Contract dynasty guide
  • Slow auction drafts designed for dynasty leagues Slow auction drafts
  • Trade auctions for transparent, competitive trade offers Trade auctions explained
  • Compensatory draft picks awarded automatically
  • Hall of Fame with league history, all-time standings, and records
  • In-app league chat to keep conversations in one place

Step-by-step migration guide

Moving from MFL takes a bit of upfront work, especially for salary cap leagues. But once the setup is complete, everything lives in one platform with no more spreadsheets.

1. Document your current MFL league settings

Before creating anything new, note your MFL league's scoring settings, roster requirements, salary cap amount, contract lengths, and any custom rules. If you run a salary cap league, export or screenshot each team's current contracts and salaries. This becomes your reference during setup.

2. Create your league on League Tycoon

Set up a new league and configure scoring, roster sizes, and league rules to match your MFL settings. If you're running a contract dynasty league, configure salary cap, contract length options, dead money rules, and franchise tag settings.

3. Enter rosters and contract data

This is the most hands-on step for MFL salary cap leagues. Add each team's roster, then assign current salaries and remaining contract years. League Tycoon's contract system will enforce cap compliance going forward, so accuracy here matters. For standard dynasty leagues without salary caps, simply enter rosters.

4. Backfill your league history

Use the Hall of Fame to enter your league's historical records: all-time standings, trophies, head-to-head records, and high scores. Your league's legacy carries over, and you can track regular season and playoff records separately.

5. Invite your league mates

Share the league link with your league. League mates can join via the mobile app or web. They'll see their rosters, contracts, and cap space immediately. This is where the UX improvement over MFL becomes obvious to everyone.

6. Run a test period

Give your league a week or two to explore the platform before the season starts. Encourage people to look at their rosters, check cap space, and make a test trade or waiver claim. Answer questions as they come up.

7. Go live

Once everyone is comfortable, you're fully running on League Tycoon. Contracts, cap tracking, trades, drafts, and league chat are all in one place.

For salary cap and contract leagues

If your MFL league already runs with salary caps and contracts, the migration to League Tycoon is especially worthwhile. MFL salary cap leagues typically rely on a combination of platform settings, commissioner manual adjustments, and external spreadsheets. League Tycoon consolidates all of that into one integrated system.

What changes for salary cap leagues

  • Cap enforcement becomes automatic. No more manual compliance checks.
  • Every team member can see their own cap space, contracts, and dead money in the app.
  • Extensions, franchise tags, and contract bidding are built into the platform.
  • The commissioner no longer needs to maintain external spreadsheets.

Addressing common MFL concerns

"We've been on MFL for years. All our data is there."

Your league history matters, and League Tycoon's Hall of Fame lets you preserve it. Enter all-time standings, trophies, and records so nothing is lost. For roster and contract data, the initial setup takes a bit of time, but it only has to be done once.

"MFL lets us customize everything."

MFL's flexibility is real, and it's one of the platform's strengths. League Tycoon focuses on the settings that dynasty and contract leagues use most, with thoughtful defaults that reduce setup time. If your league uses a highly specialized MFL feature, verify that League Tycoon supports it before switching.

"My league mates barely use MFL as it is."

This is actually the strongest argument for switching. A platform your league mates will open, use on their phones, and engage with regularly is more valuable than one with more features that no one uses.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring my salary cap and contract data over from MFL?
MFL does not provide a direct export of salary and contract data, but you can recreate your league's cap structure on League Tycoon. Most commissioners set up their existing rosters, assign current salaries, and enter contract lengths manually. It takes some time upfront, but the result is a fully integrated system that no longer depends on spreadsheets or manual tracking.
Does League Tycoon support the same level of customization as MFL?
MFL is known for deep configurability, and League Tycoon takes a different approach. League Tycoon focuses on the settings that matter most for dynasty and contract leagues, with clean defaults that work out of the box. If your league relies on a very specific MFL setting, check the League Tycoon feature set or reach out to support before migrating.
Will my league mates actually use the new platform?
This is one of the biggest reasons leagues leave MFL. League Tycoon's modern interface and mobile app make it significantly easier for league mates to stay engaged. Commissioners consistently report that league-mate adoption improves after switching to a platform with a better user experience.
Is there a cost to switch?
Creating a league on League Tycoon is free. You can set up your league, configure rosters, and explore the platform before committing. There is no migration fee.
When is the best time to switch from MFL?
The offseason is ideal. You have time to set up the league, enter rosters and contracts, and let league mates explore without the pressure of weekly lineups. Most commissioners make the switch between January and July.
