League Setup

League size: 4 teams, 32 teams, or anything in between

League Tycoon supports dynasty leagues from 4 up to 32 teams, in free standard dynasty and in contract dynasty alike. Thirty-two teams is a selectable option when you create a league, and the whole platform works at that size: salary caps, contracts, slow auctions, trade auctions, playoffs, and league history.

Large Fields

What a 24 or 32 team dynasty league actually plays like

Large fields are a deliberate dynasty choice. Thirty-two teams drains the waiver wire, which turns the rookie draft into the primary way rosters improve and makes every long-term asset worth holding. Depth becomes scarce, backup quarterbacks have real trade value, and a torn ACL is a genuine problem instead of a free agent pickup.

That scarcity pairs naturally with deep roster construction. True-position IDP slots for DT, DE, LB, CB, and S spread the player pool across far more of the league, and a practice squad gives large-field teams somewhere to stash the developmental players nobody else can afford to carry.

In contract dynasty, a large field makes the cap bite harder. Fewer replacement options on the wire means releasing a bad contract costs you more than the dead money, so extensions, franchise tags, and RFA tenders all carry more weight than they do in a 10-team league.

Commissioner Control

Changing league size between seasons

Growing the league

Pick a larger count in Commish Tools and League Tycoon adds the new teams. Invite managers into them and the league carries on at the new size, with the new teams stocking their rosters however your league decides to handle expansion.

Shrinking the league

Pick a smaller count and the commissioner selects exactly which teams come out. The platform never chooses for you. In contract leagues, the confirmation step shows what happens to the Tycoon Tokens spent activating any team you are removing.

Leagues that arrive through league import keep whatever size they were on, including counts outside the usual grid, so nothing has to be reshaped just to get the league moved over.

League size FAQ

How many teams can a League Tycoon league have?
Up to 32. Standard dynasty and contract dynasty leagues run from 4 to 32 teams in even counts: 4, 6, 8, and so on through 32. Twelve is the default when you create a league. Graveyard also runs 4 to 32 and allows odd counts, and its Jumbo field goes from 33 all the way to 2,000 teams. Gambit caps at 16 teams because each team drafts one of 16 coach schemes.
Does League Tycoon support 32-team leagues?
Yes. A 32-team league is a supported configuration in standard dynasty, contract dynasty, and Graveyard. It is a selectable option in the create-league flow, not something that needs a workaround or a special request. Everything else on the platform works at that size, including salary caps and contracts, slow auction drafts, trade auctions, the draft lottery, compensatory picks, playoffs, and league history.
Why do dynasty leagues have to use an even number of teams?
Standard dynasty, contract dynasty, and Gambit play head to head, and the schedule generator pairs every team in every week. An odd count would leave a team without an opponent, so those formats offer even counts only. Graveyard never pairs teams: it ranks the week's scores and eliminates the bottom of the field, so any count works there, odd included.
Can we change the number of teams after the league starts?
Yes. League size lives in Commish Tools under Change League Size. Growing the league adds empty teams you can invite managers into. Shrinking it asks the commissioner to select which teams to remove, so the choice is always explicit rather than automatic.
What if our league is an unusual size we imported from another platform?
The size your league is on today always stays selectable, even when it falls outside the counts the format normally offers. An import that lands on an odd or unusual count keeps running at that count, and the commissioner can move it onto the standard grid whenever the league is ready.
Does a bigger league change how roster settings work?
No. Roster slots, scoring, and every other league setting are configured the same way at any size. A 32-team league can run a deep bench, a practice squad, injured reserve, and a full set of true-position IDP slots. Larger fields simply thin the free agent pool, which is usually the point.

Set up a league at any size

Pick your team count when you create the league and change it later if your league grows. Standard dynasty is free at every size.
